TNVOAD disaster update conference call – May 10, 2011

Lilly Valezquez (FEMA) – FEMA now has a total 2,358 registration from the affected counties. The dollar amount from FEMA to date is $1,153,484.  They currently have 5 DRCs functioning with another 3 opening-should’ve been open already-for a total of 8.  They have had 650 applicants visit the DRCs.  They finally have the declaration for the counties that were flooded.  She will provide specific information as to who will be in what areas of TN.  Billy Walker feels sure that he’ll be sending one of the State F&A employees, David Sledge, to Greene County for the purpose of helping Bill Brown, the EMA there.  He’ll be there to help take the load off of him, probably for the rest of the week.   Ivan will be in east TN, covering Johnson, Washington, Greene and Cocke.  Bob Mundy will be in charge of Monroe and McMinn.   It is possible that they will also have someone covering the flooding in west TN, Shelby, Lake and the other counties in west.  Zandra Ritter will be covering Rhea and Bledsoe counties.  Lilly will be covering Hamilton and Bradley counties.  Lilly will present this information, including phone numbers at the TNVOAD meeting tomorrow (5/11).

Lou Mulsand (E TN) – VOAD organizations are working in Rhea County.   He spoke with the Red Cross case manager in Rhea County she said they are really getting back-logged there, it’s believe that they received damage that has gone unnoticed.

Lilly asked about a standing disaster committee in east TN.  No one was sure that they have such a committee, but Juli Gallup will contact a group that worked after the Katrina disaster and let Lilly know.  She will also email information regarding durable medical equipment.

AT&T has expressed interest in assisting in any way that would be helpful.  Their representative is Hugh Judd, he is the AT&T ESC for TEMA.

No regional updates to report today.

Fred Dettwiller (TNVOAD President) – reminded everyone of the quarterly meeting scheduled for tomorrow (5/11) at the Nashville Area Red Cross, 2201 Charlotte Avenue from 10:00am-2:00pm (CST) in the auditorium.
